Unik Construction Engineering was founded in 1996 as a small Botswana based building Contractor. Today it is a formidable organization with branches in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Mauritius and South Africa. We specialize in large scale projects ranging from road and bridge construction, water and sewer services, residential, commercial, industrial buildings and infrastructure development.
We are currently in the market looking for an Assistant Accountant to work in our Finance Department for Malawi branch office in Lilongwe.
Duties & Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Checking documents submitted for payments as to their validity, accuracy, andcompleteness, in order to detect and correct errors as well as irregularities.
- Adhering to the payment process and processing of bank payment.
- Maintain all bank accounts and orderly filing of all financial records.
- Processing financial transactions in SAGE and monthly reconciliation of all bankaccounts.
- Updating the Fixed Asset Register.
- Preparing and submitting tax returns to the Malawi Revenue Authority in consultation with management.
- Assist the Finance Manager and Financial Accountant during external audits.
- Assisting in preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Performing other related duties as required or directed including supporting the Finance Manager and Senior Accountant.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- The applicant must hold a Bachelors Degree in Accounting froma legally recognizedUniversity in Malawi and/or a Diploma in Accounting coupled with studying towardsobtaining the ACCA qualification.
- Proven one or two years working experience in accounting.
- Excellent working knowledge in financial packages such as SAGE and Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
