VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Diocese of Dedza invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position tenable at the Catholic Health Commission of the Diocese of Dedza.

 

Job Title: Assistant Accountant (1 Assistant Accountant Position)

Responsible to: Diocesan Treasure General

Reports to: Diocesan Accountant.

Supervises: Accounts assistant, Office Assistant and Drivers.

Supervised by: Diocesan Accountant.

Job Location: Diocesan Accounts Office.

Job Purpose: The promotion, coordination and implementation of quality Financial Management Systems within CHC.

Job Objectives: To maintain standards in the management of general accounts, project finances, procurement, human resources, general office and estates services.

 

Main duties:

  1. Checking field trip expenses, liquidations and ensuring that any cash not spent is deposited.
  2. Assist in preparation of budgets and any other financial forecast.
  3. Review and verify financial transactions, documents and financial statements of the agency ensuring their integrity and compliance with donor policies, regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.
  4. Ensuring timely, accurate, complete, valid preparation of timesheets.
  5. Responsible for preparation of payment vouchers; ensuring detailed review of completeness, validity, accuracy, ownership and authorization of financial transactions.
  6. Posting all financial transactions to the accounting system making sure that all transactions are valid and supported with adequate budget.
  7. Performing back up services of accounting system on monthly basis; ensuring that all printed documents are systematically signed and filed.
  8. Ensure that cash advances are liquidated on time and following up on outstanding liquidations.
  9. Maintaining financial filing system, ensuring that all documents are properly filed, maintain the archive in an orderly manner, ensure that all files are well labeled with numbers and description.
  10. Provide on-job orientation on financial management to no-finance officers in the commission.
  11. Monthly reconciliation of taxes payable; remitting taxes to Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in line with tax calendar; prepare withholding tax certificates for submission to MRA and suppliers.

 

Performance level:

  1. Eighty percent of routine reports submitted to the Diocesan Accountant in time.
  2. Activity-based budget management, not exceeding total budgets and less than 100% variance on budget lines.
  3. Authorized payments and original supporting documents available.
  4. All paid out financial documents are; at all times, maintained in files that are in a ready-for audit state.

 

Job Specification: The following qualifications, experiences, skills and competences are required.

Qualification: Degree in Accounting obtained from a recognized training institution.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years.

Skills and abilities: Computer literate, Quick Books, Microsoft Excel, power point.
