Overview

Counterpart International is recruiting an Agriculture and Nutrition Specialist for its anticipated USDA-funded McGovern-Dole Food for Education in Malawi. With the support and under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Party, he/she will be responsible for establishing and executing Counterpart International’s (CPI) integrated agriculture and nutrition programs as part of the Malawi Food for Education program with USDA/McGovern-Dole. He/she will work closely with the project leadership to assist in the achievement of program objectives, and to ensure the quality, effectiveness and impact of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for all strategic plans for the health and nutrition components of the FFE program, following an inclusive and participatory process.
  • Develop training modules, management tools and documents, as well as teaching materials for health and nutrition elements of the program, including nutrition-sensitive agricultural production.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the School Health and Nutrition Directorate and the Ministry of Health to ensure effective and collaborative field level activities. Troubleshoot with field offices and nutrition and agricultural leads as needed.
  • In coordination with the project manager, act as a liaison between Counterpart International and government health and food officials, as well as local, national, or international structures to ensure complementary and synergistic programming.
  • Ensure a comprehensive strategy to health and nutrition activities, and that educational activities at school and community level align with and reinforce agricultural production initiatives and focus of the FFE program; supervise field-based agronomists.
  • Ensure overall programmatic quality of health, nutrition, and nutrition-sensitive agricultural components.
  • Visit project sites regularly, to ensure effective project implementation, and provide the necessary assistance to partners and staff, in addition to overseeing project preparation, implementation and evaluation.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, nutrition or other relevant field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with NGOs or public health institutions.
  • Demonstrate planning, production and reporting skills.
  • Ability to manage conflicting tasks, set priorities, and execute projects effectively.
  • Justify the competence of U.S. government regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrate competence in leading food surveys, LQAS, SMART, KPC.
  • Solid computer skills with good knowledge of MicroSoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
  • Demonstrate organizational, analytical, oral and written skills.
  • Demonstrate supervisory and management skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships with a variety of individuals, and to work alone or with several people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required.
