INUA Advocacy

We are looking for an experienced Advocacy & Communications Officer to take part in our vision for a more equitable refugee policy in Malawi. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, and executing advocacy campaigns, communication strategies and fundraising material. The role requires a deep understanding of the target audiences, and the ability to create compelling content that resonates with them.

The role is based in Lilongwe, and open to Malawian citizens only.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and execute advocacy strategies that support the organization’s mission and objectives.

2. Develop and implement strategic communication plans to support advocacy efforts.

3. Write, edit, and proofread compelling content for social media, website, press releases, brochures, newsletters, etc.

4. Research opportunities for grant funding and develop high-quality proposals.

5. Create and manage internal and external partnerships that can help promote the organization’s message.

6. Monitor relevant local and international media, and research topics to ensure our programmes are up to date.

7. Analyse the performance of our programmes and recommend strategic improvements.

8. Enhance and manage our concern recording system and escalate grievances to the relevant authorities.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or a related field

Required Minimum Experience:

At least 10 years’ experience in project management, communication and advocacy.

Knowledge and Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills as a foundation for curating effective professional relationships with local and international stakeholders.
A knowledge of the structures of policy and public opinion influence in Malawi.

Competencies:

Strong skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Mailchimp, photography, videography and graphic design apps.
Spoken and written English and Chichewa of the highest calibre. Knowledge of Kiswahili and /or French will be an added advantage.
