Brief Description of the Project
The M72-TB-VAC study is a phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, clinical trial to assess the prophylactic efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of the investigational M72/AS01E-4 Mycobacterium tuberculosis vaccine when administered intramuscularly on a 0,1-month schedule to adolescents and adults (15 to 44 years of age).
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Study Physicians, Clinician, Nurses and Study Coordinator, the HIV Counsellor will be responsible for study participant screening, including performing Provider Initiated HIV Testing and Counselling (PITC).
This is a renewable 1-year contract and will be based in Blantyre.

Responsibilities
Role and responsibilities
- You will primarily be based at the study clinic site, to perform HIV testing and counselling during screening and participant follow up.
- Perform diagnostic HIV tests on those patients who are too sick for counselling
- If any patient wishes to undergo couples counselling with their partner, please do also test the partner as normally would occur in VCT.
- Record all test results in the registry as you go along.
- Ensure all disposables and consumables are available at all times through the Research Nurse Coordinator.
- Liaise with research studies to supply them with HIV test results for their patients for where necessary. This may involve filling in research documentation for those studies.
All staff are employed under the MLW Programme and are ultimately responsible to the Programme whether directly employed under the Core Grant, a Research Fellowship or project grant. All staff are expected to be flexible and may be required to contribute to the activities of the Core Programme or another project(s).
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Complete and up to date qualification in HIV testing and counselling (Malawi Ministry of Health)
- Competency in written English
- Experience in HIV testing and counselling
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to use electronic data capture systems for data collection.
Desirable
- Previous experience of working on a clinical trial or clinical research project
- Good Clinical Practice in Research (GCP) training
- Experience in community engagement activities.
