Local Government Service Commission is inviting Applications from suitably qualified individuals to
fill the following vacant positions tenable at Ntcheu District Council.
Job Title: Accountant
Grade: M6
Salary: Within the Grade M6 salary scale segment
Location: Ntcheu District Council.
Educational Qualifications
Applicants must be serving Senior Assistant Accountants (Grade J/M8) with a minimum of four (4)
years’ experience at that grade in local authorities or in possession of a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or its equivalent obtained from accredited institutions.
Duties
I. Prepare monthly Cash flows.
II. Supervise processing of payments.
III. Maintain cashbook.
IV. Ensure paid vouchers are properly filed.
V. Ensure that the Council is adhering to its commitments i.e. VAT/ surtax, WHT PAYE etc.
VI. Ensure that transactions are correctly posted and verifying subsidiary books before posting into
the General Ledger.
VII. Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.
Competencies
The post holder is the head of an accounting section and must ensure proper management of the
section. He/ She must have sound knowledge of financial principals, practices and procedures.
Must demonstrate the ability to lead a team of highly motivated accounting personnel. He/ She
must be conversant with financial software’s e.g. sage
Note: Documentary evidence of major requirements specified in the advertisement shall be required during interviews. Serving officers will also be required to demonstrate during the interviews that they are permanent and pensionable officers in the Civil Service by producing letters of confirmation in appointment in addition to letters of condition of appointment on probation (PSR 19)
