Kandiya SACCO Limited

Position: Accountant (Temporary)

Location: Lilongwe

Reports to: The SACCO Manager

The position will be responsible for the timely production of all financial and managerial accounting records, and maintenance of accurate member account information.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with the existing accounting policies formulated by the Board of Directors, in line with the Cooperative Societies Act, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs).
  • Ensuring timely and accurate recording of all Sacco transactions.

  • Preparation of approved payments

  • Preparing daily, weekly, monthly, and final accounts and reports.

  • Preparing and maintaining member personal account information including accurate share, deposit, and loan account balances.

  • Reconciling all checkoffs and other remittances with ledgers and member Accounts.

  • Performing bank reconciliations and other control account reconciliations.

  • Assist the Manager in implementing checks and controls in line with established processes and procedures.

  • Tax and Statutory deductions administration.

  • Ensuring that all transactions involving Sacco’s expenditures are properly authorized and duly accounted for

  • Ensuring daily and accurate backing up of Sacco’s data in an external hard drive and handling of general filing of all office documents

  • Formulation and adherence to Internal Control systems, SACCO policies procedures and guidelines, and other statutory requirements and recommend improvements to the system.

  • Carrying out such other duties as directed by the Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

    • Diploma in Accounting/Finance with 5 years of relevant experience in a busy accounting environment

    • Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of the latest accounting conventions.

    • Be able to train others.

    • Be innovative and good with figures.

    • Be able to work without supervision.

    • Hands-on experience in using accounting packages.

    • Highly competent in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    • Able to communicate effectively.

    • Be a team leader.

    • Be able to meet targets and deadlines.
