ACADEMIC STAFF VACANCIES

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invite applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for vacant academic positions tenable in various establishments of the University.

A. FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

1. Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in Veterinary Small Animal Medicine

Qualifications

Minimum of an MSc in Veterinary Medicine, Infectious Diseases or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Veterinary Medicine, Infectious Diseases or any related field for a Lecturer and above.

2. Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in Veterinary Pathology

Qualifications

Minimum of an MSc in Veterinary Medicine, Medical Pathology or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Veterinary Medicine, Medical Pathology or any related field for a Lecturer and above.

3. Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in Herd Health and Livestock Economics

Qualifications

Minimum of an MSc in Veterinary/Livestock Economics or related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Veterinary/Livestock Economics or any related field for a Lecturer and above.

4. Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in Toxicology

Qualifications

Minimum of an MSc in Toxicology, Pharmacology or any related fields obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Pharmacology, Toxicology or any related field for a Lecturer and above.

5. Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in Veterinary Surgery

Qualifications

Minimum of an MSc in Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery or any related fields obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery or any related fields for a Lecturer and above.

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates interested in teaching Veterinary Small Animal Medicine must be proficient in teaching veterinary anatomy.
  • Candidates interested in teaching Pathology must be proficient in General and Clinical Pathology.
  • Candidates interested in teaching Pharmacology must be proficient in teaching Toxicology.

B. FACULTY OF FOOD AND HUMAN SCIENCES

1. Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in Nutritional Sciences

Qualifications

Minimum of an MSc in Nutritional Sciences, Nutritional Biochemistry, Systems Biology, Approaches to Nutrition or any related fields obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in any related field for a Lecturer and above.

2. Staff Associate/Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in Clinical Dietetics

Qualifications

Minimum of an MSc in Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition or closely related disciplines obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition or any related field for a Lecturer and above.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants interested in teaching Nutritional Sciences must be proficient in the following fields; Nutritional Biochemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Nutritional Pathology, Biochemical Nutritional Assessment, Lifecycle Nutrition, Nutrition, and Global Health.
  • Applicants interested in teaching Clinical Dietetics must be Registered Dietitians and those who are concluding their Master of Science degree trainings may apply but must clearly indicate progress towards conclusion of the degree and the probable dates of completion.
  • Applicants interested in teaching Clinical Dietetics must be proficient in the following fields: Medical Nutrition Therapy I, Medical Nutrition Therapy II, Global Nutrition Programmes, Nutrition Counselling and Behaviour Change, and Medical Ethics.

Other Requirements:

  • All interested candidates including STAFF ASSOCIATES must have a BSc in relevant field with at least a credit.
  • Candidates applying for the post of Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor must show proof of publications in recognized peer reviewed journals.
  • Candidates should also have at least 3 years’ experience preferably in teaching in a University of repute

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaching and learning

  • Develop and review teaching and learning materials.
  • Carry out curriculum development and reviews.
  • Deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials.
  • Assess students’ performance.

2. Research, consultancy and outreach

  • Engage in research leading to publication and policy development in the area of specialization.
  • Establish professional networking.
  • Contributes to specialized research groups.
  • Supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

3. Resource Mobilization

  • Develop and submit grant proposals for research and consultancy.
  • Manage research projects.
  • Conduct short courses.

4. Governance and Management

  • Participate in meetings and other administrative duties as assigned.

Conditions of Engagement:

All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment basing on satisfactory performance.
