MAIIC

The Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC) Plc is a local development finance institution (DFI) incorporated in November 2018 under the Company’s Act of 2013. The company was established to bridge the long-term financing gap in Malawi and spearhead private sector development.
MAIIC is a commercially oriented DFI set up to play a leading role in socio-economic development in the country.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following position:
Position Summary
The Chief Enterprise Development Officer will report directly to the Managing Director and is
responsible for overseeing the technical leadership for activities related to business development and advisory services for SMEs, including identification of potential SMEs.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • To lead the SME development component by providing technical and managerial oversight and leadership on business development and advisory services to improve entrepreneurship, competitiveness, and investment readiness within the country’s key economic sectors.
  • To develop appropriate products and services for existing and new enterprises across all the economic sectors of the country.
  • Develop and implement appropriate efficient and cost-effective delivery channels for the enterprise products with other financial institutions.
  • Work closely with entrepreneurs and relevant partners to enhance and engage private sector engagement and investment in SMEs.
  • Oversee day to day and long-term planning, design, and operations of the enterprise development unit to ensure effective project implementation.
  • To coordinate the sensitization of the enterprises in Malawi on the work of MAIIC.
  • Design and implement technical assistance interventions to investment attraction and facilitations, commercial partnerships, and trade expansion.
  • Ensure activities are designed and implemented to include the youth and women-led businesses.
  • To conduct regular site visits and for customers under the enterprise development portfolio in accordance with policy.
  • Provide support in managing distressed portfolios.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Finance, and Economics. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in providing consulting or business development services to small and growing businesses. Multi-sector experience preferred.
  • Solid experience working with accounting packages.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical assistance and advisory services to a range of financial service providers.
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative, creative team player.
