Office Of the Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman is a public body established under the Republic of Malawi Constitution. Section 123 of the Constitution accords the Office of the Ombudsman the mandate to investigate any and all cases where it is alleged that a person or a group of persons have suffered an injustice and there appears to be no any remedy reasonably available by way of appeal from court or where there is no other practicable remedy.

The Office of the Ombudsman is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions:

Job Title : Principal Civic Officer

Grade: OMB5

Responsible to : Deputy Director of Information, Documentation and Civic

Education (Grade OMB3)

Duty Station : Office of the Ombudsman – Headquarters

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinating the development of civic education strategies and measuring their effectiveness;
• Coordinating the development of quarterly bulletins and newsletters and related
civic education; • Ensuring that all civic education and communications materials align with brand standards;
• Promoting stakeholders and general public participation in civic education sessions and dialogues;
• Tracking analytics and creating reports detailing successes and failures of civic
education campaigns;
• Preparing and distributing electronic materials aimed at civic educating and communicating with the masses including e-promotional materials, e-invites and information updates for OoO events and activities;
• Facilitating and/or conducting civic educations sessions with various stakeholders or the general public;
Incorporating gender sensitization and awareness in various kinds of services, trainings and activities provided to target communities; and
• Drafting and submitting quarterly and annual civic education reports;
Conducting performance appraisals; and Malawi Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must be in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Mass Communication, Education or related field obtained from accredited institution with not less than four (4) years working experience.
• Working experience in accountability and oversight functions will be an added advantage.
