VACANCY
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Chief Executive Officer of the Malawi Accountants Board.
THE ORGANISATION
The Malawi Accountants Board (MAB) is the regulatory authority of the accountancy profession in Malawi established by the Public Accountants and Auditors Act No. 5 of 2013 of the Laws of Malawi to regulate the reporting of financial and non-financial information and to provide direct oversight over professional accountancy organisations, accountants, auditors, auditing and accounting firms; and accountancy training institutions to, among others: –
- promote high-quality reporting of financial and non-financial information by entities;
- promote the highest professional standards among auditors and accountants;
- enhance the credibility of financial reporting;
- improve the integrity, competence, and transparency of professional activities in accounting and auditing;
- improve the quality of accounting and auditing services;
- protect the financial interests of the general public and investors;
- adopt and ensure compliance with and the enforcement of applicable local and international accounting and auditing standard;
- encourage effective collaboration with other regulators;
- maintain the register of chartered accountants and diplomate accountants; and
- advise training institutions and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) on matters pertaining to examinations and training of accountants.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB
The Chief Executive Officer shall be responsible to the Board of Directors and he/she shall be the overall in charge of the MAB by providing clear strategic leadership and direction of the institution.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general direction of the Board, the Chief Executive Officer shall, but not limited to:
- Lead in Strategy development, execution and monitoring;
- Lead, in Programmes/Projects implementation and management;
- Lead in local and foreign stakeholder engagement and management;
- Ensure financial growth and sustainability of the organization;
- Lead in Board and Human Resource Management.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The applicants must have:
- A Master’s Degree in any of the following, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration and Strategic Management;
- A Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following, accounting, finance, economics and Business administration obtained from an institution accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE);
- A professional qualification obtained from a recognized professional body; and
- Ten (10) years working experience in the accounting profession, of which five (5) years should be in a senior managerial position.
ATTRIBUTES
The applicants must:
- Be mature, self-starter, strategic thinker, and results-oriented;
- Have strong management, financial, and analytical skills with demonstrable leadership and communication skills; and
- Be a member in good standing with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) and registered with Malawi Accountants Board.
REMUNERATION
The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance-related contract for a period of three (3) years, with an attractive salary, benefits, and gratuity packages commensurate with the position, qualifications and experience.
