Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified serving and non-serving persons of Malawian Origin to fill the following vacant positions:
Job Title: Principal Environmental Affairs Officer
Grade: G/M4
Reporting to: Chief Environmental Officer (Grade F/M3)
Location: Blantyre District Council

Duties and Responsibilities
I. Coordinate planning and implementation of environmental activities in the district
II. Promote environmental awareness in the district on the protection and management of the environment and natural resources
III. Identify, prepare and conduct training programmes in environmental management
IV. Conduct environmental assessments and prepare environmental reports
V. Monitor compliance to environmental legislation
VI. Provide technical advice to stakeholders on environment and natural resources management
VII. Promote integration of environmental management in district development plans
VIII. Organise consultative meetings and workshops with relevant stakeholders
IX. Facilitate the production of the district state of environment and outlook report and the district environmental action plan
X. Any other duties assigned by the director from time to time
Qualifications
Applicants must be serving Environmental Officers (Grade I/M6) with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience at that grade in the Local Authorities. This is a promotional position therefore those that are working under Blantyre District Council are encouraged to apply and will have an added advantage.
