Job Title: Principal Health Prevention and Promotion Officer

Grade: G/M4
Reporting to: Chief Preventive Health Officer (Grade F/M3)
Location: Blantyre District Council

Duties and Responsibilities

I. Assisting the Chief Preventive Health Officer in the administration and management of mass media and advocacy, materials development, research monitoring and evaluation activities.
II. Supervision of staff involved in mass media advocacy, materials development research, monitoring and evaluation activities under him/her including district officers and stakeholders.
III. Assist in organizing and implementation of capacity building for mass media and advocacy, materials development, research monitoring and evaluation activities.
IV. Assist in the preparation of work plans and budgets for the section.
V. Facilitation collection of newsworthy events from district, health headquarters and other sections in the mass media.
VI. Conduction KAP gaps from different programs
VII. Assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of mass media authorities for free or cost minimized media programmes
VIII. Assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of mass media advocacy.
IX. Participating in the training of all health and extension staff in communication skills and techniques.
X. Liaising with staff and various levels on mass media and advocacy issues
XI. Ensuring that field studies are done to determine relevance and impact of health messages
XII. Ensuring coverage of impact functions
XIII. Conduct public health publicity and advisory
XIV. Coordinate health talk programmes in the district
XV. Act as Public Relations Officer for the Health Sector

Qualifications

Applicants must be serving Health Education Officers (Grade I/M6) with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience at that grade in the Local Authorities. This is a promotional position therefore those that are working under Blantyre District Council are encouraged to apply and will have an added advantage.
