Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified serving and non-serving persons of Malawian Origin to fill the following vacant positions:
Job Title: Chief Agriculture Officer
Grade: F/M3
Reporting to: The Director of Agriculture (Grade E/M2)
Location: Blantyre District Council

Duties
I. Interpret agricultural policies and formulate strategies for their implementation;
ii. Coordinate technology transfer process;
iii. Prepare annual work plan budgets;
iv. Plan, organize and monitor implementation of agricultural training programs at the Council;
v. Develop strategies for strengthening Research/Extension/Farmer linkages at the Council;
vi. Review Agricultural Policies, Systems and methodologies
vii. Review staff requirements and advise on staff recruitment and rational deployment;
viii. Initiate staff and farmer training needs assessment for the formulation of appropriate extension training programs;
ix. Promote collaboration with other departments and other organizations involved in agricultural programs at Council level;
x. Initiate and coordinate the development or relevant technical messages for use by agricultural extension staff;
xi. Submit technical reports.
Competencies
The post holder should demonstrate sound knowledge of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Management policies and systems. The incumbent should be able to ensure close collaboration with other stakeholders and farmers.
Qualifications
Applicants must be serving Assistant Chief Agricultural Officer (Grade F/P6), District Agricultural Development Officers (Grade F/P6) regardless of experience at that grade or Principal Agricultural Officers (Grade G/M4) with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience at that grade in the Local Authorities. This is a promotional position therefore those that are working under Blantyre District Council are encouraged to apply and will have an added advantage.
