Background

Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 2 million people in 47 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen access to quality of HlV/AlDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted infections (STl) treatment. The organization provides cutting edge treatment and medical care in some hard-to-reach health facilities located across five districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Nsanje and Chikwawa, with plans to expand services to Nkhotakota district in 2025.

FY 2025 expansion also includes the opening of a wellness centre clinic that will be implemented at Biwi health centre in Lilongwe. The wellness clinic will provide Reproductive Health Services,
focusing on sexually transmitted Infections and cervical cancer. The Wellness Clinic project will have an operations research component.

Position Title: Driver

Reports to: Operations Officer

Duty Stations: Chinsapo HC, Lilongwe

While based in Lilongwe, the driver is responsible for managing day to day transport operations for AHF Malawi program in Nkhotakota District. The position will provide necessary logistical support to enable smooth implementation of program activities, and to the extent possible, minimize all transport related problems that might impact program activities. She/he will adhere to organization guidelines for operations of automobiles, maintenance, and care of AHF Malawi vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for dispatching and proper loading of program vehicles. Must adhere to security and operational procedures as per AHF vehicle policy
  • Maintain vehicle logbooks, and ensure that other drivers properly complete and submit a vehicle logbook to operations department for review
  • Drive AHF vehicles in a safe manner, and adhere to all road safety rules of Malawi
  • Give timely reports on the working conditions of company vehicles and equipment;
  • Responsible for filing reports for any delays in packing program vehicles at end of the day; and any incident or accidents involving program vehicles;
  • Keep communication open with all program staff members, and partners regarding transportation needs;
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of vehicles in a timely manner;
  • Must oversee and schedule the day-to-day activities of transportation of employees in liaison with the Operations Officer.
  • Maintain AHF vehicles in good mechanical condition including checking oil and water. Submit monthly log sheets to support this, including oil and water, and complete and submit weekly log sheets to support this;
  • Never drive the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and observe the non-smoking rule in the vehicle at all times.
  • Observe the NO TALKING/MAKING PHONE CALLS WHILE DRIVING rule (must first park on the road –side to answer/make phone calls)

Professional Profile:

  • Pro-active approach and flexible attitude towards work.
  • Should be in possession of a valid driving permit
  • Holder of Malawi School Leaving Certificate
  • C1 with Category PG Driving License
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English in a variety of settings such as staff meetings.
  • Good organizational skills to coordinate and see that all the employees are getting their transport on time
  • Current Defensive Driving Certificate
  • Over five years of driving experience in a reputable organization.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals
  • Basic technical knowledge of automobiles, as s/he has to write reports on the working condition of the company transport means
  • Needs to be sensitive to patient population and issues surrounding HIV/AIDS.
  • Computer skills are a must
