Background
Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 2 million people in 47 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen access to quality of HlV/AlDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted infections (STl) treatment. The organization provides cutting edge treatment and medical care in some hard-to-reach health facilities located across five districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Nsanje and Chikwawa, with plans to expand services to Nkhotakota district in 2025.
FY 2025 expansion also includes the opening of a wellness centre clinic that will be implemented at Biwi health centre in Lilongwe. The wellness clinic will provide Reproductive Health Services,
focusing on sexually transmitted Infections and cervical cancer. The Wellness Clinic project will have an operations research component.
Position Title : Clinical Officer (1 position)
Reports to: Regional Medical Officer
Duty Station: Biwi Health Centre- Wellness Centre Clinic
Overall responsibility
The Clinician will take the lead in the implementation of AHF Wellness Centre Clinic project along with its implementation research study which will primarily be focusing on STI and reproductive care at Biwi Health Centre.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Be the facility wellness clinic in charge, including planning of activities, implementation and progress monitoring
- Conduct in-person review of clients presenting with STIs-history taking, physical examinations, sample collection, interpreting laboratory results and prescription of treatment.
- Coordinate appropriate referral on complicated cases to secondary and tertiary facilities
- Provide health education and routine counselling to clients treated for STI
- Manage treatment complications
- Provide partner notification slips to index STI clients and counselling on partner notification
- Performing cervical cancer screening on all eligible women
- Conducting STI rapid tests and other POC tests as necessary
- Refer clients for other services such as HTS, laboratory services, psychosocial counselling, social structures, etc
- Support records keeping, data collection and analysis for the wellness clinic
- Compiling monthly report on wellness clinic progress and submit to medical officers
- Support the implementation of operations research: data collection, analysis and reporting in collaboration with AHF medical officers
- Conducting QI projects for the wellness clinic to improve quality of care
- Ensure autonomy and confidentiality is maintained in the client care for the wellness clinic, and appropriate consent and privacy is sought and maintained for the research participants (including safety of client clinic documentation, registers and all research documentation)
Education and Experience
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a reputable institution, with at least at least 5 years’ experience post internship.
- Registered with and in good standing with the Medical Council of Malawi
- Experience in research methodology and implementation
- Experience in managing Sexually Transmitted Infections and other reproductive illnesses. Training in STI management and the provision of VIA are added advantages.
- Well conversant with HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care with UpToDate certifications
- Demonstrated project management skills, including attention to operational and research detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects efficiently
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with internal and external stakeholders using logical, precise, non-technical language
