Background

Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 2 million people in 47 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen access to quality of HlV/AlDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted infections (STl) treatment. The organization provides cutting edge treatment and medical care in some hard-to-reach health facilities located across five districts of Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Nsanje and Chikwawa, with plans to expand services to Nkhotakota district in 2025.

FY 2025 expansion also includes the opening of a wellness centre clinic that will be implemented at Biwi health centre in Lilongwe. The wellness clinic will provide Reproductive Health Services,
focusing on sexually transmitted Infections and cervical cancer. The Wellness Clinic project will have an operations research component.

Position Title: Comprehensive Nurse (2 positions)

Reports to: Clinical Officer

Duty Stations: Chinsapo Health Post, Lilongwe (1),

Mapelera Health Centre, Chikwawa (1)

Overall Responsibility

To provide comprehensive and integrated clinical care to HIV positive individuals; and strengthen efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of quality clinical services in AHF supported sites. The incumbent will ensure smooth implementation of ART service delivery; coordinate with other nurses in providing top-notch HIV care, treatment and prevention activities; and strengthen referral and linkage services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In close collaboration with the facility clinical team, the comprehensive nurse will provide quality, evidence-based ART, PMTCT, STI and TB services.
  • Perform skilled nursing procedures and administer medication as ordered, and within the scope of practice of the licensee.
  • Establish and support effective linkages and referral of patients within and outside the facility. Work closely with the prevention coordinator to supervise community program staff and ensure achievement of targets and timely preparation and dissemination of reports.
  • Initiate and expand PITC in the supported health facilities.
  • Identify and support walk-in patients requiring immediate attention, and refer them to the clinician for treatment
  • Provide patient and family education covering diet, hygiene, drug adherence, disclosure and many more areas of concern.
  • Support the clinic in establishing effective patient follow up mechanisms, and ways of retaining all patients in care.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Nursing with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in HIV care and treatment. Must be trained in pediatrics and adult HIV Management (2022). Training in cervical cancer screening is an added advantage.
  • Highly organized, capable of effective multi-tasking and with demonstrated knowledge and experience in setting up mechanisms for patient follow up and treatment adherence.
  • Must be registered with Malawi Nurses and Midwives Council, with knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures in the management of HIV related diseases.
