A Projects Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of RFA projects. This role ensures accurate financial planning, reporting, and compliance related to projects.
Job Title: Projects Accountant
Reports to: Finance Manager
Job Purpose
To manage the financial aspects of assigned RFA projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. The role involves budget preparation, cost tracking, financial analysis, and support to project teams in achieving financial and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning & Budgeting
· Develop and monitor project budgets in collaboration with RFA Finance Manager and stakeholders.
· Provide financial forecasts and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
2. Cost Control & Analysis
· Track project costs, identify variances, and analyze cost performance.
· Recommend corrective actions to keep projects within budget.
· Conduct cost-benefit analyses for project expenditures.
3. Reporting
· Prepare regular financial reports, including variance analysis, for stakeholders.
· Ensure timely submission of financial statements for projects.
· Maintain accurate financial records for audits and reviews.
4. Compliance
· Ensure all financial practices comply with organizational policies and relevant regulations.
· Ensure adherence to all donor or partner financing agreements.
· Liaise with internal and external auditors during project audits.
5. Collaboration
· Work closely with RFA Finance team, procurement teams, and external vendors to ensure financial accuracy.
· Provide financial advice and support to project teams for decision-making.
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) are an advantage.
Experience:
· 10 years’ progressive experience in finance or accounting specifically in projects reporting.
Technical Skills:
· Proficiency in financial software and IFIMIS
· Strong understanding of project accounting principles and practices.
Soft Skills:
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
· Accuracy of project budgets and forecasts.
· Timeliness of financial reporting.
· Percentage of projects completed within budget.
· Compliance with financial regulations and standards
