JOB ADVERTISEMENT/PRINCIPAL
POSITION: PRINCIPAL
The role of the principal is to provide leadership, direction and coordination within the school.
The principal will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.
1) Acting as board secretary responsible for calling for board meetings in
consultation with the board chair, preparing all documents for the meeting, and
taking minutes during the board meetings.
2) Implement all policies made by the Board of Directors through management
team.
3) Curriculum Management Responsibilities:
a) Collecting data which will improve teaching and learning activities;
b) Report on teaching, support and other activities;
c) Oversee coaching and mentoring of new and under-performing teachers;
d) Ensure that workload is fairly distributed;
e) Encourage teachers to support learners to take part in extracurricular
activities;
f) Involve teachers in extra-mural activities;
g) Involve the community with extracurricular activities, where possible
4) Heading the management team and ensuring that management meetings are
conducted regularly, and that management decisions are implemented
promptly.
5) Formulation of the school action plans and budgets and ensuring that the plans
are effectively implemented.
6) Overall responsibility for Supervision and coordination of all school activities
7) Effective risk management to ensure that the schools goals are attained.
8) Establishment of regular system of assessment of the pupils’ education progress through suitable monitoring and evaluation techniques.
9) Spearheading formulation of calendar for the whole term
10) Implementing the recommended curriculum effectively
11) Setting up machinery in the administration of the school for consultation and communication with staff and clients
12) Responsible for all communications with the general public (public relations).
13) Advising the Board as to a probationary teacher’s suitability for continued
employment in the school.
14) Preparing the overall school performance report (operational and financial) and reporting to the board at the end of each term and annually.
Qualification and experience
a) The eligible applicants should have a Minimum of a Diploma in Primary Education and a Bachelors Degree in primary school would have an added advantage from an accredited Institution.
b) Minimum of ten (10) years teaching experience and at least 3 years as a Principal/any senior management position.
c) Experience of finance, budgets, and financial reporting.
d) Experience in competitive proposal development
e) Must have excellent computer skills.
Qualities of an Effective Principal:
i. Leadership Skills: Principal need to be strong leaders who can motivate and guide
their staff. They should encourage each faculty member to do their best,
recognizing that different individuals contribute diverse skills and teaching styles.
ii. Diplomacy and Advocacy: Principal must interact professionally with learners,
parents, and teaching staff. They should be diplomatic in decision-making but also
willing to stand up for what they believe is right.
iii. Vision and Goal-Setting: Principal shape the institution’s vision and goals. Whether
turning around underperforming schools or maintaining high standards, they must
formulate how the school functions and what it aims to achieve.
iv. Attention to Detail: Principal should pay attention to details and set clear
expectations for teachers and students.
v. Communication Skills: Effective communication with all stakeholders is crucial for a successful principal.
vi. Fair Hiring Practices: Principal are responsible for hiring new teachers and aides.
vii. Disciplinarian Role: When necessary, principals must enforce discipline within the school.
viii. Must have strong Christian values.
Remuneration
