FACILITATORS IN PUBLIC SPEAKING, LEADERSHIP AND EMPOWERMENT

Summary: The facilitators in public speaking, leadership, and empowerment help women dairy farmers in Lilongwe and Dowa Districts to develop their capacity and confidence to speak in public, empowerment, and leadership. The methodology they must apply is that of facilitation. That is, ask questions and wait for the women of the village to answer. The facilitator will provide the assistance that achieves these aims in the zones of at least seven Milk Bulking Groups each month. The facilitator will be under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

1. Understand the facilitation methodology well and use it faithfully.
2. Help women in each village advance their public speaking skills, empowerment, and leadership.
3. In each zone, help the women appoint a leader for their group who will be responsible for scheduling the technical assistance meetings.
4. Each month, help the women set and achieve personal goals and solve common problems.
5. Help the women make business plans for fresh milk as well as any second businesses.
6. Help the women conduct a self-evaluation of their growth in six areas: capacity to speak in public; confidence to speak in public; empowerment; leadership; equal participation with men in the technical assistance in building a milk business; and equal participation in building the business.
7. Work with the agronomist for her zones to help all farmers evaluate their increases in income from fresh milk.
8. Help the women evaluate their increases in income from any second businesses that they may establish.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in providing assistance in rural villages.
• Proven experience in facilitation.
• Qualification – Diploma in extension or its related
• Experience in activities that promote empowerment and leadership.
• Speak, read, and write in English.
• Speak Chichewa fluently.
• Maturity and self-confidence.
