Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA)

The Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA), is an umbrella body of all Local Government Authorities in Malawi established with a specific mandate to help the Government of Malawi realise and sustain the Decentralisation Agenda by informing and guiding national policy issues related to decentralization and local development in Malawi. To achieve this, MALGA promotes, protects and defends the interests of Local Government Authorities and decentralisation in Malawi by consolidating Local Governments’ voice to influence policy and promote collective action in engaging central government for improved, sustainable and effective operating environment of Local Governments.

MALGA further undertakes other functions incidental to achieving the primary mandate of the Association such as representation, capacity building, research, coordination and networking.

Furthermore, the Association has a convening mandate of the Local Government Authorities in Malawi.

With financial support from its partners and its membership, MALGA would like to hire additional staff members to strengthen its Secretariat. All positions are tenable at MALGA Secretariat in Lilongwe.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

PROJECT OFFICERS (2 POSITIONS – 1 POSITION UNDER LOCAL GOVERNANCE AND DECENTRALIZATION AND 1 POSITION UNDER PARTNERSHIPS AND CAPACITY BUILDING) MS 3 B

Reports to: Line Programme Officers

Under the direct supervision of Programme Officer, the Project Officer manages a specific project assigned to him/her and anchors all aspects of implementation, monitoring, learning and evaluation, prepares weekly, monthly and quarterly reports in addition to specific activities reports for submission to the Programme Officer.

The Project Officer plans under the supervision of Programme Officer execution of operational and administrative tasks. This includes organizing project schedules, overseeing project budgets, preparing project status reports, and creating project presentation materials.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Political Sciences and or equivalent. Those
  • A minimum of two years of relevant post – qualification experience.
