PROGRAMME ADVOCACY COORDINATOR (PAC)

The Malawi SRHR Alliance is a registered local coalition of six local organisations working together to promote the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights of young people, women and marginalized groups in the country. The six organizations are Centre for Alternatives for Victimized Women and Children (CAVWOC), Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR), Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education (CYECE), Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM), Youth net and Counselling (YONECO) and the Coalition of Women Living with HIV and AIDS (COWLHA). The alliance secretariat is in area 15/6, Gogo Jenala Compound.

The Malawi Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Alliance has an immediate vacancy for a young and innovative Programme Advocacy Coordinator (PAC) aged between 18 and 30. The Programme Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for overall Advocacy Programmes Planning, Coordination, Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting.

Reporting Lines

The PAC will work under the overall supervision of the National Coordinator for Malawi SRHR
Alliance

PROGRAMME ADVOCACY COORDINATOR’S KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

i. Advocacy Programme Planning and Implementation

  • Facilitating the planning of the Alliance’s Advocacy strategy in line with the Strategic plan.
  • Ensuring that all SRHR advocacy programme activities are effectively implemented for the realization of the programme outputs, outcomes and impact
  • Representing the Alliance in strategic advocacy forums at local, regional and global level.
  • Leading in identification of and facilitation of partnerships with state and non-state actor allies in SRHR advocacy in Malawi.
  • Mobilizing the youth for SRHR advocacy at community and national level in Malawi.
  • Promoting efficient and effective youth participation in advocacy projects and programmes in all Alliance’s programmes through overseeing processes of youth participation and identification of advocacy issues.
  • Participating in the development and review of projects, programmes and institutional annual budgets.
  • Participating in fundraising initiatives for SRHR advocacy projects and programmes.

ii. Monitoring, Evaluation and Evaluation

  • Develop projects monitoring and evaluation strategies and framework
  • Conduct periodic project monitoring and evaluation sessions jointly with Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (PMERL Coordinator.
  • Ensuring documentation and dissemination of success stories, promising practices, case studies and stories of change.
  • Lead in monitoring state implementation of regional and global SRHR commitments.
  • Lead in development of tools for advocacy programme monitoring and evaluation including
    outcome mapping and harvesting for Alliance programmes in Malawi.

iii. Capacity building

  • Lead in assessing CSOs capacity in community, national and regional SRHR advocacy.
  • Designing capacity strengthening initiatives on result based SRHR advocacy for CSOs in Malawi.
  • Lead in identifying gaps, coordinate and facilitate advocacy and lobbying capacity building trainings for young people, CSOs and state actors in Malawi.
  • Organizing mentorships, learning visits , trainings and other capacity building for SRHR CSOs, champions, youth advocates at community and national level.

iv. Reporting

  • Ensuring timely preparation of high-quality activity, quarterly, and annual programme
    reports.
  • Lead in preparing Alliances quarterly, biannual and annual narrative report.
  • Disseminating programme and annual reports to strategic partners and stakeholders.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or any Social Development field
from a certified and accredited tertiary learning institution.

Experience: Experience in implementation or coordination of advocacy projects/activities relating
to young people’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, including youth participation.

Skills: Project management skills, innovative, analytical skills, technical report writing skills,
facilitation skills, communication skills, attention to detail, committed to follow standard office
procedures, good level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office) fluent in English, articulate, tactful
and diplomatic and conveniently ready.
