JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT
JOB DESCRIPTION
Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to Accountant
- Filing and safekeeping of payment vouchers and all petty cash documents.
- To provide timely and reliable management Accounts reports monthly.
- To provide Bank Facility Report for the company daily.
- To develop and control a centralized accounting system to ensure that accounts are effectively managed.
- To investigate variances against budges and provide analysis of differences.
- To assist in the preparation of annual budget and cash flow forecasts.
- To maintain payments and receipts cash books.
- To ensure financial transactions are posted, reviewed and all miscoding and ineligible costs are cleared.
- To maintain ledgers-fixed assets, cash and journal entries.
- To prepare monthly bank reconciliations for bank accounts.
- To prepare cash control accounts.
- To ensure compliance with company’s policy on all financial issues.
- To prepare all tax returns as prescribed by applicable Malawian rules like VAT, WHT, PAYE, TEVET and Income Tax etc.
- To liaise with internal and external auditors in preparation of statutory audit and period end closure process.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Work experience as an Accounting Assistant or Accounting Clerk
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping procedures
- Familiarity with finance regulations
- Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors
- Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks)
- Organization skills
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
- BSc/Ba in Accounting, Finance or relevant field
Preferred Skills
- Good analytical and numeral skills
- Good communication skills
- Very conversant with government laws
