Program Overview

CHAI’s Sexual, Reproductive Maternal and Neonatal Health programaims to reduce unintended pregnancies and related impact of maternal mortality and morbidity by increasingaccess to essential reproductive health products and services in partnership with governments by pursuing global and country-focused market-shaping opportunities and in-country engagement around guidelines, registration, tendering, procurement and service delivery. In addition, CHAI aims to strengthen government health systems and build the capabilities of ministries of health to deliver robust, integrated reproductive health programs including to adolescent girls and young women.

Underlying CHAI’s approach is the development of effective, government-led management systems that serve as the backbone towards facilitating program implementation, support transition and enable governments to sustain progress, while also providing for the continued growth and evolution of a country’s SRMNH program.

Position Overview

CHAI Malawi is currently implementing a sexual and reproductive and maternal health program, working in close collaboration withthe Ministry of Health (MOH) Department of Reproductive Health (RHD) and implementing partners. The program aims to increase access to a broad range of Reproductive Health (RH) products and services,by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of new RH product introductions and strengthening the health system.

CHAI Malawi therefore seeks a self-motivated individual to support the implementation of this program, working closely with MOH to ensure successful introduction and scale up of new RH products. The independent contractorwill be based in Lilongwe, Malawi with up to 50% travel in-country, and will report to theProgram Manager, SRMNH.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development of training materials and SOPs for newMaternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) product/s seeking input from relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with MOH to coordinate partners to ensure adherence to and implementation of the introduction and scale up plan.
  • Support development and implementation of a monitoring, evaluation and learning plan forMNH new product introduction, including conducting routine field supervision visits, data collection, and routine data analysis of national and program data.
  • Support review of national service delivery guidelines, training materials and reference manuals to integrate new MNH products.
  • Support/coordinate provider trainings and mentorships as required by closely working with MOH and district coordinators.

    Develop and implement strategies to strengthen Family Planning (FP) and MNH data management and supply chain systems at national, district and facility levels.
  • Creatively analyze and visualize data and develop presentations, progress reports, and other knowledge products to share successes and challenges met during product introduction and scale up.
  • Document and share early lessons from new FP and MNH product roll out.
  • Support the Program Manager in the development of work plans, reports and other program
    deliverables.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as Public Health, Nursing, Social Sciences with experience in SRMNH.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a demanding, results-oriented environment in the public and/or private sector.
  • Experience in sexual reproductive and maternal health.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and tactfully to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required, including experience using Excel for quantitative analyses or costing.
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively using PowerPoint and Word.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, and ability to use data to inform program development and strategy and to present results in both narrative and graphic form.
  • Proven ability to operate independently, multitask, and set and achieve ambitious targets with limited guidance.

Advantages:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Global Health Implementation or related field.
