Seibo Maria is a Not-For-Profit Organization with the purpose to provide school meals in partnership with local communities. Our goal is to feed every hungry child in the world a hot meal in school. Currently we work in 2 districts: Mzimba in 12 Primary schools and Blantyre in 1 Primary school and 45 Nursery schools all within Chilomoni area.

We are inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following position:

ACCOUNTANT

(Permanent, Full-Time)

Locations: Chilomoni, Blantyre & regular travels to Mzimba

Reporting to: Program Co-Ordinator & The Trustees of Seibo Maria

  1. General

  • Provide sound financial accounting including review and enforcement of financial policies and procedures

  • Maintenance of all files with supporting documentation for usage of organizational resources

  • Program monitoring and community mobilization

  • Team leadership including HR assistance

  1. Financial Accounting

  • Weekly submission of bank movements, petty cash, and mobile money transactions including scanned copies of receipts

  • Prepare monthly management accounts including budget variance analysis
  • Prepare monthly payroll and provide payroll reports to management

  • Ensuring all tax submissions are done online and manual records of receipt and communications are kept up to date

  • Prepare analysis of financial information for monitoring reports when required.
  • Cash flow forecasting at appropriate intervals.
  • Maintenance of daily filing of all supporting documentation for the organization including HR, Finance, and Admin Files

  • Maintenance of a fixed asset register for the organisation

  • Attending to all audit queries as the first point of contact

  • Assisting in the budget-setting process on a quarterly basis

  • Assisting in the funding request procedures on a monthly/quarterly basis

  • Assist in procurement and delivery of program materials and assets

  • Carryout any other duties assigned and defined from time to time as this list is not exhaustive

  1. Program Monitoring

  • Assist in collecting and entering school feeding data for program impact indicators such as monthly enrolment, attendance, feeding data and stock balances in schools

  • Assist in planning and facilitating community mobilization meetings and trainings

  • Conduct school visits to monitor school feeding and enforce adherence to standard operating procedures

  • Carryout any other duties assigned from time to time

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Minimum of ACCA/CIMA Diploma

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the accounting department

  • Motorbike License

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Practical knowledge and experience in all financial accounting processes desired

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and demonstrable experience with accounting packages (SAGE and ZERO) would be advantage

  • Knowledge of HR procedures would be an added advantage

  • Experience in field implementation and monitoring of School Feeding Program desired

  • Experience in line management of staff would be added advantage

  • Strong organizational skills and experience

  • Ability to challenge and communicate with all levels

  • Personable, with the ability to enthuse and motivate others and enjoy working in a team

  • Ability to work on own initiative and function effectively without immediate support

  • Proactive problem-solving skills

  • A desire to uphold the ethos of the charity and to meet social aims

  • Ability to constantly assess priorities and work flexibly

  • Experience in riding a motorbike is highly desirable

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
