Commercial Controller

Job summary

The Commercial Controller reports to the Head of Finance and partners the commercial function. The role objective is to support the delivery of business strategic agenda in the commercial/client facing space. The position will work closely with other professional finance colleagues in the organisation to contribute and support delivery of overall business objectives.

Key responsibilities

  1. Supporting the commercial function to deliver on their respective client profit & loss objectives.

  2. Maintaining oversight of client/project profit and loss by keeping tight control over respective profit and loss levers of pricing, billing, and strict scrutinization of standard costs charged to respective client accounts.

  3. Supporting the Head of Finance to localize and execute within the commercial function to deliver on the client profit and loss objectives.

  4. Monitoring and tracking day to day commercial activities, providing the necessary challenge to minimize deviation from approved targets, plan, budgets, and objectives.

  5. Providing visibility on performance trends through the tracking and timely reporting of relevant measures and key performance indicators to stakeholders.

  6. Enforcing compliance with applicable accounting and reporting policies, both regulatory (International Accounting Standards and International Financial Reporting Standards) and GW mandated in the commercial area. Specifically: revenue, commissions, receivables and output VAT accounting.

  7. Ensuring efficient accounting processes and book-keeping controls are in place to guarantee the integrity of the sales and debtors subledger, embedding controls such as circularization of receivables, up to date booking of receivables impairment, revenue recognition and accounting period cut-off measures etc.

  8. Working with country and head office stakeholders to deliver robust business case analytics to pre-evaluate investment decisions in key business projects to inform the “go”, or “Not go” decision based on the outcome of return on Investment and payback period.

  9. Delivering on the mandated reporting obligations to satisfy the needs of Internal, region, group, and statutory stakeholders on time and in full.

  10. Supporting the identification of risks and opportunities at the front-end of the business, formulating a mitigation plan against the risks and dynamically initiating the allocation of necessary resources to exploit the opportunities.

Qualification and Experience

• A degree in Statistics, Business, or a relevant field

• Accounting professional qualification – CPA, ACCA or equivalent.

• Knowledge of business/performance management and/or systems/processes

• Minimum 4 years of experience in a medium to large multinational blue chip fast-moving consumer goods organization, three of which are in middle level management.
