Job Description

A construction company specializing in water treatment plants, water retaining structures, bulk earthworks, pipelines, roads, and infrastructure projects is seeking a Construction Engineer for a project-based contract. The successful candidate will report directly to the Project Manager and Project Director as needed and will be required to be on-site full-time. Responsibilities include direct oversight of construction works to ensure high standards of quality and safety as mandated by the client.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all work is performed according to approved manuals and procedures.
  • Ensure the project is constructed and documented per contract documents and best engineering practices.
  • Provide technical support to the Project Director, managing project cost/change controls, budgets, and accounting records.
  • Perform change order estimating and assist the Project Manager in negotiations.
  • Coordinate and monitor schedules to ensure compliance with codes, timelines, costs, quality assurance, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Manage and review contractors’ construction schedules.
  • Review weekly and monthly reports on project status, costs, and potential changes.
  • Report project status to management.
  • Attend progress and quality client meetings as required.
  • Lead safety initiatives through example, words, and compliance.
  • Oversee construction quality assurance.
  • Make sound and accurate judgments based on available information.
  • Supervise on-site construction and installation of civil works.
  • Monitor civil subcontractors to ensure technical, quality, and compliance standards are met.
  • Ensure civil works comply with contractual obligations.
  • Detect and resolve potential quality issues in coordination with the Site Manager.
  • Create reports to monitor civil activities against project schedules using daily and weekly plans, logs, and reports.
  • Assist on-site construction teams with technical or engineering issues related to civil disciplines.
  • Assess and determine actual progress on-site based on the approved schedule.
  • Manage all safety-related construction activities, formally record non-conformance, and attend relevant safety meetings.
  • Maintain a conscientious attitude towards controlling job costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Additional degree or diploma in Construction Management is advantageous.
  • 12-15 years of project construction and engineering experience required.
  • Professional Engineer registration with recognized professional bodies.
  • Registration with a Project and Construction Management Professional body as a Professional Contracts Manager.
  • Working knowledge of Build Smart and CCS.
  • Familiarity with JBCC, GCC, FIDIC, and NEC forms of contract.
  • Experience with large infrastructure construction sites and mega multi-year projects.
  • Understanding of construction and engineering processes and industry practices.
  • Knowledge of the roles and interdependencies between contractors, designers, owners, and construction managers.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and project management software.
