VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

FOR

KASIPA FARMER COOPERATIVE ADF PROJECT

Kasipa Cooperative is a membership-based organisation of smallholder farmers located at Benga, Nkhotakota district, in the Central Region of Malawi. The core business of the Cooperative is to provide technical and management services that support production and marketing of groundnuts by its members. This Cooperative have received a capacity building grant from the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and part of the funds will go towards recruitment of the following position:

Agriculture Extension Officer (1 Position)

Reporting to: The Manager

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. To coordinate and monitor all activities in operational area including the distribution of inputs and recovery of loans.
  2. To work with the Lead Farmers to Facilitate and train farmers in Morden farming.
  3. To prepare weekly and monthly reports on activities progress.
  4. To organize regular farmers’ meetings at club levels and also collaborate with the District Agriculture Development Officers in your area of operations in the training and education of farmers on the safe and proper use of inputs and implements.
  5. To demonstrate on farms the proper use and application of input.
  6. To monitor and assist in collecting data from both demonstration farms and farmer’s farms in the area of operations.
  7. To distribute and account for all inputs delivered to all farmers in your operational area.
  8. To work closely with the District Agriculture Development Officer and Ministry of Agriculture to enhance adaptation and implement of appropriate agriculture and climate change techniques for farmers
  9. To work closely with Lead farmers assigned to the various clubs in the delivery of agriculture extension services
  10. To encourage farmers to adopt better practices through exposure to new knowledge, information, skills, inputs and processes to improve the longterm performance of their farm businesses
  11. Conducts field visits to see how the farmers are progressing in the field with revolving loan fund inputs

 

Skills and Qualification

  1. A Diploma in Agriculture
  2. At least 2 years work experience in agricultural extension
  3. Computer literacy is essential
  4. Excellent organizational and communication skills both verbal and written
  5. Ability to work with minimum supervision
  6. Willingness to work in rural areas
