Children of the Nations is a duly registered NGO in Malawi with a mission to raise children who transform Nations. It partners with nationals to provide Christ-centered care for orphaned and destitute children, enabling them to create a positive and lasting change in their nations. In order to fulfil its vision effectively and excellently, opportunity has risen to engage qualified person of Malawian origin to fill post tenable at its head office in Lilongwe. COTN therefore, invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the position on a two-year contract renewable upon successful performance appraisals and availability of funds.

Position: Assistant Nurse

Position Summary

To undertake daily cleaning of the clinic in line with COTN Physical care standard of service (SOS), Health and Safety standards and to assist the Physical Care Coordinator in providing appropriate care for the children and provide assistance at COTN Centers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sweep and mop floor twice a day before and after work and when visibly soiled.
  • Dump dusting tables, chairs, equipment and all areas which needs dump dusting
  • Check and clean the toilets, bathroom, sinks at least twice a day.
  • Stock the examination/treatment room and Bed making
  • Wash the tumblers, buckets and change the drinking water for medication
  • Support the nurse in conducting patient follow up / follow of sick program children.
  • Taking Vital signs of the patients before meeting the nurse
  • Support the Nurse doing Drug administration (Packing and giving medicine to the patients)
  • Disinfect, clean and Sterilize equipment

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competences

  • Minimum of MSCE with experience of not less than 3years of working as Assistant House Parent/ Office assistant with proven competency and highly competitive evidence-based child care and those with experience working as an HSA/Auxiliary Nurse will have an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively capture and convey corporate ideas.
  • Experience and ability to work in a flexible and cross-cultural environment
  • Experience on implementing Child Protection Policy and working with Children from troubled backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Mature Christian who has the potential to provide spiritual counselling and parental advice when need be.
  • Should have passion to work with children and less privileged people

Other duties

  • Stock drugs in the mini pharmacy
  • Outreach clinical visit in the COTN centers
  • Emptying waste bins, clean and place bin liner and doing laundering
  • Waxing floors, washing curtains and Scrubbing of the clinic.
  • Support processing of Vita meal (nutritious porridge for nursery schools)
  • Support distribution of hygiene packs and other items to program children
