Communications Officer
Kwathu Ndi Kwanu is a feminist organization that exists to economically empower women (including refugee women) that are survivors and victims of Gender Based Violence, particularly Intimate Partner Violence.

The Communications Officer will report to the Executive Director
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Officer will be responsible for the effective planning, implementation and monitoring of all internal and external communication. She will design and execute strategic communications campaigns and initiatives to promote KNK activities, programs and products.
Refine and operationalize the communication strategy, including setting objectives, timelines, budgets, and setting clear indicators to regularly assess impact.
Identify and address communications-related capacity building needs across the KNK team.
Contribute communications expertise to KNK’s strategic planning processes and provide thought leadership.
Location: This position is based in Lilongwe.

Education and Qualifications
Experience in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science or relevant Social Sciences.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
Proficiency in defining and monitoring key performance metrics (KPIs) and generating reports for content and profile evaluation.
Experience in the context of non-profit or sexual and reproductive health rights and justice (SRHRJ) is an asset.
Strong content creation skills: creating designs and short videos
Analytical skills to interpret campaign data and provide actionable insights.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external agencies.
Content Creation and Management
Guide the development and production of high-quality communications materials across print, digital, and other platforms, ensuring consistency with KNK’s branding and messaging.
Write and/or oversee the preparation, production, and dissemination of outreach products (e.g. reports, media packets, news releases, op-eds, radio/TV broadcasts, speeches, briefing notes, feature stories, etc.).
Conceptualize and design visually engaging graphics, illustrations, and infographics to bring messaging and content to life across print and digital campaigns, materials, and platforms (e.g. brochures, posters, banners, social media posts, presentations, animations, videos etc).
Maintain and organize a comprehensive database for communication materials and digital assets, ensuring access by colleagues
Develop and maintain a digital asset system for multimedia and photography.
Campaign Development and Targeted Engagement
Guide compelling storytelling across new and existing campaigns and platforms and connect with target audiences. Gather stories, oversee creative development, and maximize reach/engagement.
Craft compelling messages and content
Develop shared campaigns with partner organizations and influencers to amplify reach.
Leverage UN international days e.g. World AIDS Day, International Women’s Day, 16 Days of Activism, etc. for relevant content creation and engagement.
Track and analyse data to monitor the impact of communications activities in shifting perceptions, beliefs and behaviours related to SRHR. Identify successes and opportunities for improvement.
Websites, Apps and Social Media
Manage planning and execution of media strategy, working closely with colleagues to identify the right messaging and formats to effectively tell stories through social channels (X, Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook & LinkedIn).
Build relationships with the online community members.
Develop weekly content plans for each social network according to the specificities of each channel.
Work with team members to create design pieces and copywriting for social media content.
Foster and strengthen new relationships with key influencers within the community.
Record selfie videos for social media content based on relevant news or events.
Respond promptly to donor and supporter inquiries, comments, and other forms of engagement on social platforms.
Relay community feedback to relevant internal stakeholders.
Constantly monitor and analyze relevant social media key performance indicators (KPI) and produce performance reports.
Deploy social listening tools to monitor comments and topic trends and strive to boost engagement and resolve potential conflicts that may affect brand reputation.
Develop monthly social listening reports with key findings and action recommendations.
Support direct mail and mid-level donor relations efforts as needed, such as responding to donor inquiries and providing a high level of donor stewardship.
Support the fundraising program with insights from the social media operation.
Publish and update content on KNK´s website.
Stay up to date with social media trends.
Stakeholder Relations
Cultivate close working relationships with partner organizations and influencers to collaborate on communications activities and amplify reach.
Explore and establish strategic partnerships to enhance outreach and image.
Manage media relations for positive coverage, maintaining a network of supportive regional and national media contacts.
Work closely with the team to organize and lead communication efforts for live events including major conferences, workshops, seminars, press briefings, meeting (virtual and in-person).
