Temporary position (6-8 months)

AFIDEP is a regional non-profit research and policy Institute whose mission is to institutionalize a culture of consistent use of evidence in public policy formulation and implementation to address various development challenges in Africa. AFIDEP is supporting the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) in organising the 9th African Population Conference in May, 2024. The theme of the conference is “Road to 2030: Leveraging Africa’s human capital to achieve transformation in a world of uncertainty”. Through formal sessions, roundtables, plenary sessions, and artistic portrayals, close to 800 participants will
present on and discuss what transformative actions to 2030 are required to leverage Africa’s population and human capital while acknowledging that the world is very different from when the global goals were set in 2015. The African Population Conference (APC) is a platform for scholars, experts on population issues, researchers, parliamentarians, government officials, policy makers, and other stakeholders to deliberate on Africa’s population challenges and solutions. AFIDEP is seeking a dynamic and experienced Conference Coordinator with experience in planning and organising international conferences and events. The Conference Coordinator will play a crucial role in the planning, execution, and success of the APC conference, which is to be held 20-24 May, 2024. You will work closely with the Bureau of UAPS (President, Vice-President, Secretary General and Treasurer), the UAPS Secretariat based in Ghana, the International Organising Committee (IOC) (chaired by Vice-President of UAPS) and the National Organising Committee (NOC) of the 9th APC. You will coordinate the activities of the 9th APC including liaising with sponsors, service providers, vendors and internal teams to ensure seamless event management from start to finish. The position will be based at AFIDEP’s Malawi Office.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in business management or other relevant qualification. S/he must have at least 4 years’ experience in conference coordination or event planning, and strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.
